What Is Happening to Social Networking?

Wow, what is happening to social networking? I seldom use Facebook, but when I logged in to check on an entry I made to the wife for her feature article in OIC Today. While there, I saw a face I thought I knew and was about to request a connection, when up pops “If you send a request to a stranger, it will be considered spam and your friend request will be blocked temporarily. Please only send this request if you know this user.

Have we lost sight of what membership means; organizations, groups and clubs where members can freely mingle, network and get connected with other members. Now Facebook says if you do not already know the member, then it is considered spam to try and connect with them. Twitter only allows you to follow 2000 members until you have some balance in those following you as you follow them or others. A common problem in social networking is where members being followed to not follow back or connect back with you. For example, I have one site where I track nearly 45,000 members and have less than 3,000 tracking me.

New Social Networking Sites for Women

Women are starting new businesses in the U.S. at break-neck speed, and the need for new social networking sites for women has increased significantly. Currently just 16% of the total number of U.S. small businesses is owned by women. A recent report released by The Guardian Life Small Business Research Institute projects that female-owned small businesses will be responsible for creating one-third of the 15.3 million new jobs anticipated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics by 2018. The Institute expects that women who own small businesses will create from 5 million to 5.5 million new jobs across the U.S. by 2018.

Wow, so what is a good way for women to accelerate their own small business growth? Many find that joining a social network for women can be a fantastic way to not only find support from other working females, but to also network with people that can become potential investors, employees, friends, vendors, and business partners. There is really no limit to the kinds of connections you can make within new social networking sites for women.
